Wesley’s Fractured Tibia

Meet Wesley, a 5- month old Shetland Sheepdog. He presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists with a fractured tibia after he fell down the stairs.
Wesley was seen by Dr. Alvaro Larin, one of our Board-Certified Surgeons. After carefully reviewing the available options for Wesley with his owners, it was decided that surgery was the best option to fix his bone fracture.

Meet Fabio, a 10-year old Pomeranian. He presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists for a surgery consultation. He has shown signs of intermittent mild hind limb lameness for a few months now. During a visit to his primary care veterinarian, radiographs revealed a right craniodorsal coxofemoral luxation. This occurs when the head of the femur becomes dislocated form the acetabulum (the femur’s “socket”).

Meet Shy, a 5-year old male Yorkie. He was presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists for a consultation with one of our Board Certified Surgeons for a right metacarpal fracture. According to his owner, Shy was injured when he broke the owner’s fall. He then became non-weight bearing in the right forelimb.

Orion Cat

Orion the Cat

Meet Orion, a 3-year old cat. He arrived at Miami Veterinary Specialists during our emergency hours for suspected urinary blockage. A few weeks ago, Orion was taken to his primary care veterinarian for abnormal urination. He was prescribed with medication and his radiographs were taken, which didn’t show any present abnormalities. However, Orion continued with abnormal urination and will go to the litter box and attempt to urinate for about 5 minutes.

Meet little Dinosaur, a 10-week old Beagle. He was presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists because he had been coughing for a week, had a decreased appetite, was drinking less water and becoming very lethargic.

Before coming to MVS, Dinosaur was hospitalized due to other health complications like depression, nasal discharge, congested lungs and conjunctivitis.

TECA-BO

Dolly’s TECA-BO

Dolly is a 5-year old Shih Tzu Mix. She was presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists for an evaluation of her right ear due to chronic ear infections (otitis). Her primary care veterinarian referred Dolly for a TECA-BO procedure or Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bulla Osteotomy on her right ear. A year ago, Dolly had a TECA performed on her left ear at another practice.

Meet Colin, a 2-year old Russian Blue cat. He presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists with his first urethral obstruction. Urethral obstructions are easily developed in male cats. It occurs when the lower urinary tract gets obstructed by mucus, crystals or urinary stones. They are life threatening emergencies and could lead to fatalities if they are not treated in time.

Lil Jo’s Laparotomy

Lil Jo is a 2-year old American Bulldog. He was referred to Miami Veterinary Specialists by his primary care veterinarian for a surgery consultation. Radiographs taken at his primary care veterinarian were telling of intestine foreign body. They clearly showed that he had dilated intestinal loops and a suspicious foreign material in the small intestines.
