Miami Pet MRI Services

When your pet is experiencing pain, neurologic symptoms, mobility issues, or unexplained health changes, advanced imaging can provide the answers your veterinary team needs. Miami Veterinary Specialists offers Miami pet MRI services to help diagnose complex conditions in dogs and cats with greater detail and accuracy. MRI technology allows our team to evaluate soft tissue structures that may not be visible through standard imaging, helping guide more informed treatment decisions.

Magnetic resonance imaging, commonly known as MRI, is especially useful when a pet’s symptoms involve the brain, spine, nerves, joints, muscles, or other soft tissues. If your family veterinarian has recommended advanced imaging, or if your pet is being evaluated by one of our specialty teams, an MRI may help identify the source of the problem and determine the best next step.

At Miami Veterinary Specialists, our goal is to provide clear diagnostic insight while keeping your pet’s comfort and safety at the center of care.

What Is an MRI?

An MRI is an advanced imaging test that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of internal structures. Unlike X-rays, which are especially useful for viewing bones, MRI provides highly detailed views of soft tissues. This makes it an important diagnostic tool for conditions that affect the brain, spinal cord, nervous system, muscles, ligaments, and other delicate structures.

A pet MRI may be recommended when an animal has symptoms that cannot be fully explained through a physical exam, bloodwork, X-rays, or ultrasound. The detailed images help veterinarians better understand what is happening inside your pet’s body, which can lead to a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

When Your Pet May Need an MRI

A Miami pet MRI may be recommended for pets with neurologic, orthopedic, or soft tissue concerns. Your veterinarian may suggest advanced imaging if your pet has ongoing symptoms, sudden changes, or a condition that requires a closer look before treatment or surgery.

An MRI for your pet may help evaluate:

  • Seizures or unexplained neurologic symptoms
  • Back pain, neck pain, or suspected spinal cord disease
  • Weakness, paralysis, or difficulty walking
  • Soft tissue injuries, masses, or complex orthopedic concerns

Some pets may also need an MRI to help plan surgery or determine whether a condition can be treated medically. Because MRI provides detailed internal images, it can help reduce uncertainty and support safer, more targeted care.

Advanced Imaging for Brain, Spine, and Soft Tissue Conditions

MRI is one of the most valuable tools for evaluating the brain and spinal cord. If a pet is experiencing seizures, balance problems, behavior changes, head tilt, weakness, or sudden mobility issues, advanced imaging may help identify inflammation, masses, disc disease, trauma, or other neurologic conditions.

For pets with back or neck pain, MRI can help locate areas of spinal cord compression or disc-related issues. This information is especially important when determining whether surgery, medication, rehabilitation, or monitoring may be appropriate.

MRI can also support the diagnosis of soft tissue injuries and complex conditions that may not show clearly on other imaging tests. By giving the veterinary team a more detailed view, MRI helps guide care with greater confidence.
