Maggie’s Hindlimb Lameness

Meet Maggie, a small 3-year old Yorkie. She was presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists due to her left hindlimb non-weight bearing lameness.

Maggie began showing intermittent left hindlimb lameness in August. She then began receiving laser therapy in the hopes of correcting the problem. However, one day she let out a yelp and stopped placing any weight on her hind limb.


Sebastian ate something toxic!

Meet Sebastian, an 8-month old Pomeranian. Yesterday, he was brought in to Miami Veterinary Specialists during ER hours because he was lethargic, vomiting and disoriented. According to his owners, it is possible he might have ingested a toxic material found around the house (probably a plant since he likes to hang out in their yard often.) It is very important to take immediate action if you suspect that your pet might be suffering from intoxication,


Athena’s TPLO

Meet Athena, an energetic 3-and a half year old Rottweiler mix. She was referred to Miami Veterinary Specialists by her primary care veterinarian for a surgery consultation. After a fun day at the beach, Athena started limping on her left hind limb. The limping did not stop for a week. She also has a past history of an unknown trauma to her left hip when she was a puppy.


Susy’s Emergency

Meet Susy, a 6-year old Havanese mix. Her owner is Mimi, one of our most dedicated board-certified veterinary technicians. She was rushed to the Miami Veterinary Specialists Animal Emergency Room after she got hit by a car last night.

Meet Penelope, a 3-year old Pug mix. She was referred to Miami Veterinary Specialists for anemia (low blood cell count). She was also inappetant and had become lethargic.

Meet Sanford, a 5-year old Cavalier King Spaniel. He was brought in to Miami Veterinay Specialists because he had bloody diarrhea and was vomiting profusely. Sanford has had a history of thrombocytopenia, which is a deficiency of platelets in the blood.

Canine Acute Respiratory Distress

Meet Skyler, an 11-month Weimaraner. He presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists in acute respiratory distress. According to his owners, he started showing signs of inappetence and one night he started panting very heavily. He was also showing several vomiting episodes before bringing him in.

Keep Pets Away From Bones!

Meet Eva, a 6-year old Papillon. She was brought into Miami Veterinary Specialists’ 24 Hour Animal Emergency Hospital yesterday because she got herself into some trouble. Her owners explained that she managed to get into the garbage and ate several rib bones! It wasn’t long before she started vomiting excessively, expelling bone fragments.
