Vita is a 13-year old Yorkie who presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists due to signs of inappetance, vomiting and lethargy.
Vita was seen by Dr. Evans, one of our Board-Certified Surgeons. During Vita’s examination, her owners said that they had not noticed a heat cycle for years. Performed radiographs and an abdominal ultrasound revealed Vita was suffering from a pyometra. A pyometra is an infection in the uterus which is a serious condition and needs to be treated immediately. It occurred as a result of Vita’s hormonal changes in her female’s reproductive tract.
In order to correct her pyometra, Dr. Evans performed a successful ovariohysteroctomy, which is a surgery to remove all of the reproductive organs.
Vita is feeling a lot better is now back home on a great path to recovery!
