Growing up, Dr. Simona Buoncompagni knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. It was the perfect combination of her love for animals and medicine. Born and raised in Ancona, Italy. She attended and graduated from UNICAM, the University of Veterinary Medicine in Camino, Italy with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After obtaining her doctorate, Dr. Simona earned her Masters in Small Animal Gastroenterology and Endoscopy at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Teramo, Italy. 

After three years of practicing, Dr. Simona moved to Birkenfeld, Germany. During her time in Germany working alongside her mentor, Dr. Simona really grew a passion for internal medicine. In 2008, she moved to the United States to complete her three-year residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the Center of Veterinary Health Science at Oklahoma State University. Upon completion of her residency, she became board-certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Following her board certification, she founded VIME (Veterinary Internal Medicine Express), a mobile internal medicine referral service that provides high-quality care and specialized services to metro areas within the state of Oklahoma.

Throughout the years, Dr. Simona has flourished in her specialty by completing a variety of certifications, advanced trainings and externships to continue expanding her knowledge of veterinary medicine. In 2022, she completed a two-year clinical fellowship in Nephrology, Urology and Extracorporeal Therapies at the Davis School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California. Dr. Simona is one of 14 veterinarians to provide extracorporeal therapies in the country. 

Her ambition to advance the field of veterinary internal medicine has led her to develop and co-develop several research publications. Dr. Simona has lectured at conferences and universities worldwide in an effort to promote the importance of veterinary education. She is also a proud member of the American Society of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology.

Today, Dr. Simona is an integral part of the MVS medical team as one of our Internal Medicine Specialists, and has led the efforts to establish South Florida’s first Extracorporeal Therapy Center for hemodialysis.
