Say hello to Mia! She’s an 11 year old, Retriever mix who was referred to MVS with a torn ACL. Dr. Andrade performed TPLO surgery to repair her left ACL and she is recovering very well…so well in fact, that her owner Rosi Pratts says Dr. Andrade is Mia’s favorite!
Say hello to Pitzel! This adorable 11 year old poodle was referred to MVS to repair recurrent hip dislocation and remove an ear mass. Dr. Potanas and his Vet Tech Mimi performed surgery and he’s recovering very well at home.
Hip dislocation in dogs is very common. Keep an eye for the following signs:
Inability to bear full weight on the limb
Excessive mobility of the limb
Crackling noise (crepitus) at the joint
Shortening of the limb
Did you know that older cats can suffer from hyperthyroidism? This is a common condition in older cats and it is caused by overproduction of thyroid hormone. Symptoms include weight loss with an increased appetite, increased activity, vomiting, diarrhea, increased water consumption and increased urination. Thankfully, the condition can be treated with Radioiodine I-131 treatments and the success rate is over 95% with just one injection.
Meet Bunker, a 4-month old adorable French Bulldog. He was referred to MVS after having trouble breathing and was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia. Dr. Araque treated him and he was discharged happy and healthy! We miss this cute little guy!
Happy Monday! Meet Floppy, he was referred to MVS with a possible intestinal obstruction after he had constant vomiting for 3 days. Dr. Potanas performed surgery to remove the obstruction and found the culprit to be a mango pit! He’s recovering at home and staying away from mangos.
Today’s Surgery Saturday features Pepper, a 4-yr old Daschshund referred to MVS with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). In humans, the condition is called a slipped or herniated disc.
It is one of the most common neurologic disorders seen in pets, causing pain, nerve damage, and even paralysis. Dachshunds, Beagles, Basset Hounds and Shih Tzu are especially predisposed.
Lady, a 2 year old Terrier mix, was rescued from a local shelter after it was determined that she could not walk in her hind limbs. An MRI revealed that she suffered from a bruise to her spinal cord, most likely due to trauma, that did not require surgery to treat. At the same time,

How cute is this guy? Little Puppy is a 5-week old rescued English Bulldog. He came to us from Buddies through Bullies because food would spill from his nose after eating due to a possible cleft palate. He was examined by Dr. Evans who thankfully found all he need was a modified diet to aid the way he digested his food and now he’s back to his adorable self!
