Dr. Juan C. Sardinas, Surgery

Dr. Sardinas was raised in Miami and graduated college from the University of Miami. He received his veterinary doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota. He went on to complete an internship at the University of Missouri and his surgical residency at Tufts University & Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. Dr. Sardinas has also been a faculty member at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He is boarded by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS). Dr. Sardinas has special interests in soft-tissue surgery including oncologic surgery and thoracic diseases.

 
 
 
Dr. Alvaro Larin, Surgery

Dr. Larin is a native of Miami and graduated college from the University of Florida. He received his doctorate degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Florida. Dr. Larin completed a surgical internship with Affiliated Veterinary Specialists, in Orlando. He completed his residency training at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. He is boarded by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). Dr. Larin has special interests in neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery, including corrective osteotomies for growth deformities, TPLO, and total hip replacement.

 
 
 
Dr. Marc Wosar, Surgery

Dr. Wosar is a native of Miami and graduated from Emory University. He received his doctorate degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Florida. Dr. Wosar completed his internship and residency training at North Carolina State University. He is boarded by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). Dr. Wosar has special interests in orthopedics, including corrective osteotomies for growth deformities, TPLO surgery, and total hip replacement.

 
 
 

Dr. Susan Fehrer-Sawyer, Practice limited to Dermatology

Dr. Susan Fehrer-Sawyer received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from the University of Minnesota. Upon completion of veterinary school, she was engaged in private practice in Wisconsin for four years. She then completed a residency in dermatology at the University of Florida. Dr. Sawyer is a past-president of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, the leading professional organization for veterinary dermatologists with over 400 members worldwide. She has been engaged in private practice in Miami since 1986. She is limited to treating disorders of the skin and ear in companion animals.

   
 
 
   

Dr. Erick Mears, Internal Medicine


Dr. Erick Mears has been treating hyperthyroid cats since 1993 and is one of just two doctors who travel the country for the specialty. He is the only such doctor who is board certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Mears has treated more than 2,000 patients with Radioiodine I-131 and established his first treatment center in 1997. The I-CAT Feline Thyroid Treatment Center has now found a home at Miami Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Mears received his Bachelors of Science from Stanford University in 1988 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. He completed his post-DVM education at the University of Tennessee where he completed a small animal internship, internal medicine residency and was an Associate Professor in 1997.  Dr. Mears is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr.Allison Cannon, Internal Medicine


Dr. Allison Cannon is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She received her Masters of Science degree with a concentration in neuroscience from the University of Miami and from there attended the University of Florida where she attained her DVM degree.  Dr. Cannon completed a one-year internship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of California at Davis in 2006. She passed the ACVIM general exam June 2006 and is scheduled to take the certifying exam in June 2007. Dr. Cannon has participated in research evaluating feline urinary stones, formation and prevention and she is interested in all aspects of internal medicine.

Dr. Jonathan J. Kreissler, Internal Medicine

Dr. Kreissler is a graduate of the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Organismal Biology.  He obtained his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2003.  He completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine & Surgery at VCA Veterinary Specialists of Northern Colorado and a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the Animal Medical Center in New York City.  Dr. Kreissler passed his ACVIM Internal Medicine Certification Examination and is currently in the process of completing the publication requirement for Board Certification in Internal Medicine.  
 
He is joining the full time staff of Miami Veterinary Specialists where he will offer an advanced diagnostic medicine service, which will focus on minimally invasive techniques such as ultrasound-guided biopsy acquisition, laparoscopy, endoscopy, cystoscopy, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy and more.  Dr. Kreissler's practice will also include helping patients with the management of chronic pain associated with diseases such as cancer, arthritis and other painful conditions.  Dr. Kreissler is a distance runner and will participate in the Miami Marathon on January 27, 2008.  He enjoys playing golf and has two dogs and a cat.
