About The Karmelos Fund

Karmelos is a loveable three-legged dog that now has a home living with world renowned artist Derek Pala. Karmelos was one of tens of thousands of dogs that suffered with an injury or illness that needed specialized care and was taken to a Miami Animal Shelter when his owners were unable to pay for his operation. Each year, approximately 34,000 animals are brought into animal shelters and a majority of them end up being euthanized because many people shy away from adopting pets with injuries or health issues that go beyond the realm of regular veterinary care.

How Will Karmelos Fund Help

Karmelos Fund is a partnership between Miami Veterinary Specialists and Derek Pala that will offer financial assistance to Miami animal shelters and rescue centers to care for sick animals that are in need of specialty veterinary care. With help from Karmelos Fund, more animals will be treated and cured and then go on to lead happy, healthy lives—and most importantly, be adopted into loving families. According to Dr. Juan Sardinas of Miami Veterinary Specialists, “This is important because there are a lot of advanced specialty procedures that we can perform and the most frustrating part, as doctors, is to have to turn away pets due to finances.” Karmelos Fund will allocate funds for pets who need care and this will in turn increase their chances of being adopted.

Who Will Benefit From Karmelos Fund

There are four animal shelters and rescue services that will benefit from Karmelos Fund.

How You Can Help

With your help, we can see to it that more animals get treated and healed and in the end- adopted into a wonderful home. Initial funds for Karmelos Fund will come from proceeds from the auction of Derek Pala’s custom dog paintings. Mr. Pala will donate 50% of all proceeds to the fund. The auction is set to take place within the months of June and July. This is a great opportunity for all of us who love animals to give every pet a fighting chance at a happy life and good health. Together we can eliminate the need for the unnecessary euthanizing of animals. If you wish to place a bid, please call Robbie at MVS at 305-665-2820.  To see the paintings available for auction or if you’d like more information about Karmelos Fund, click here.
